From Luke March 1, 2023

 

Hello Luke,  Thanks for writing. So far I love my mission, but I miss all my family too. I'm sorry that you've been sick, I've been praying for you to get better soon so that you can start winning baseball games. Before I go to Australia I need to learn how to teach people, so right now I am in the Missionary Training Center (MTC) in New Zealand, which is close to Australia but I'm not quite there yet. My plane ride was good. First I flew to California. Luckily for me there were seven other missionaries that I flew with so I had people to talk to on the flights. The second flight, we almost missed because our first one landed late. The second flight went all the way to Tahiti in Hawaii and that lasted for eight and a half hours. We landed at 5:00 a.m. and went to get on our last flight which landed in New Zealand. When I landed I met my MTC president. His name is President Rudd and we talked about why I wanted to serve a mission. I do share a room with other elders. One is Elder Nolan from Australia and another is Elder Funk from Utah. After we got to the MTC we all got assigned a companion. My companion's name is Elder Tokavakarua but he goes by Elder Toka and he is from Fiji. Each day we have exercise time and i've made pretty good friends with those I play basketball with. I sleep in a dorm which is like a small hotel room and I can see the sunset from the window. I don't spend a lot of time in the room because I have classes where I learn how to teach. But when I do go back to the room it's always nice to have somewhere quiet to be. The weirdest thing I've eaten was spaghetti but instead of dinner, we had spaghetti for breakfast which, although it was weird it, was still good. There is a fruit that is sort of weird too, it's a mix between a pear and an apple called a papple. Did you like your plane ride? who is you mission president? Who is your companion if you have one? do you like him?  I hope you are well. Have you tried any new foods yet? If so did you like the food? Are you friends with any people yet? Where do you sleep? Do you like your room? Do you share with any buddy? If you are in  Australia do you like it there?    from luke
